Compassion in Action: The Sanctuary Sangha

Online: March 19 – November 20, 2025

With Charlotte Rotterdam & Tatiana Fraser

“Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there.”  -Rumi

This program emerges from the collaborative teachings of Dorje Lopon Charlotte Rotterdam and Tatiana Fraser, Co-Founder and Director of The Systems Sanctuary based in Montreal, Canada, blending systems leadership, a feminist/rematriative lens, and Buddhist wisdom traditions.

Together, they create a space where leaders can explore the intersection of spiritual inquiry and social transformation.

Why This Program?

This program is an invitation to explore a path of care, compassion, and interconnectedness, starting from a non-dual ground of wholeness. This program is designed as a field of compassion where systems leaders can align inner transformation with outer action.

Rooted in teachings from the Tibetan Buddhist lineage of Machig Labdrön, the 11th-century Tibetan yogini, this program offers timeless wisdom and practical tools for working with fear, transforming division, and cultivating deep compassion—practices that are especially relevant to systems leaders navigating today’s complexities.

What You’ll Explore:

This program integrates Tibetan Buddhist wisdom, teachings, practices, and reflection to support leaders in cultivating compassion, self-awareness, and skillful leadership.

Grounding in Wholeness (2 sessions)

  • Explore non-dual teachings on interconnectedness and wholeness, inspired by Machig Labdrön’s teachings.
  • Learn practices for resting in a state beyond dualism, cultivating inner peace as a foundation for leadership.
  • Inquire into the ways wholeness and a non-dual view may affect systems change work.

Compassion Practices (4 sessions)

  • Develop skills in metta (loving-kindness) for self, neutral individuals, and difficult people.
  • Explore tonglen (compassion meditation), working with the energy of giving and receiving.
  • Engage with the two wings of leadership: wisdom (emptiness / openness) and compassion (skillful means), a structural model inspired by Buddhist teachings.
  • Apply insights to real-world challenges, fostering cultures of care and connection in your community.

Integration (2 sessions)

  • Explore the wisdom of releasing attachment to accomplishment, even as we continue our engagement and work.
  • Bring your practice home. Develop a path forward that integrates a vast view with the inspiration for action.

How We’ll Support You:

  • Monthly Sessions: Eight 90-minute sessions from March to November.
  • Teaching, meditation practice, and reflection circles integrated into each session.
  • Guided Meditations: Audio recordings to sustain your practice between sessions.
  • Optional Mid-Month Meditation Calls: Join for 30 minutes of live guided practice and discussion.
  • BuddyCalls: Structured prompts for connecting teachings to your leadership context.

Who Is This For?

This stream is for those seeking a spiritual grounding to complement their systemic work. It is ideal for changemakers, systems leaders, and individuals seeking to align meditation practice with compassionate leadership.
